The VIM by JAC Vapour blends the side by side all-in-one kits of old with an elegant, modern and compact design.

It may not possess the most head-turning aesthetics, but it still oozes class with its minimalistic design.

It’s also unbelievably ergonomic; it possesses no sharp unnecessary edges just a beautifully curved body which rests perfectly in the hand. The VIM is slightly wider at one end, probably to make room for the massive 2600mAh internal battery. It tapers down from 20mm to 18mm at the front, with the wider section designed to sit against your palm.

The VIM features one simple fire button which contains a vibrant LED strip light in the center. The fire button protrudes from the device but matches the curved form of the device, it’s perfectly rounded at the edges and is incredibly tactile.

It’s positioning, however, isn’t in the traditional location. It’s on the bottom side edge of the mod, which means you don’t use your index finger or thumb to fire the VIM. Instead the natural position of your 3rd or 4th finger rest where the fire button is. You may think it will be a little cumbersome to fire, but trust me it really isn’t, and within a couple of minutes it feels natural to use that way. I tend to just squeeze the mod into the palm of my hand, and the fire button is so responsive and clicky that it causes no issues.

The VIM uses a removable 2ml tank, which only has a 14mm diameter. The tank slots directly into the mod, just leaving the drip tip protruding from the device. There’s a very smooth cut-out which reveals the plastic chamber of the tank so you can see your juice level. The VIM tank is incredibly easy to remove, replace and refill….more on this later.

JAC Vapour decided to keep the VIM tank simple, and placed the adjustable airflow on the mod. This limits any issues with AFC controllers on the tank and also enables them to sell pre-filled tanks (much like pre-filled pods) further down the line. Yes, you read that right, the VIM is an all-in-one device which will be able to use pre-filled tanks, or a tank with replaceable coils. They really have all the bases covered.

There are only two options when it comes to airflow, MTL or restricted DTL. The airflow comes from the base of the device and is controlled by using an anchored rubber plug to switch between the two. An interesting and unconventional design choice which we’ll explore later.

I love the design of the VIM, it looks so simple and unobtrusive in its styling and is an absolute delight to hold and use.

The smooth rubber coated ABS body of the mod has the perfect balance of grip and smoothness to it. The matte finish doesn’t attract fingerprints, so it maintains it’s clean appearance.

The white version we have for review does look incredibly clean and clinical. However, it has picked up the odd black scuff mark from banging around in my bag. It’s not that it scratches, but the rubber coating just seems to absorb the paint or texture from other devices.

However, JAC Vapour is also releasing the VIM with a grey or black body, which I’m sure will look just as stylish but perhaps hold up better against the odd knock.

If you look across the board of JAC Vapour designed devices you’ll notice they all have one thing in common, they are simple yet elegant, and the VIM is undoubtedly the epitome of this.

The build quality of the VIM as with all JAC Vapour products is exceptional.

They just seem to be a cut above the competition when it comes to precision engineering, and the VIM is no exception.

The ABS body is robust yet light, the fire button is clicky with absolutely no rattle or play, and the connections for the tank are very good.

You certainly won’t be disappointed in the quality of this device, especially as it’s so affordable.

The VIM AIO Kit measures in at 90mm x 20mm x 40.5mm (with the tank connected), and only weighs 88g with a full tank of juice.

It is a remarkably pocket-friendly kit, and the fact it houses a 2600mAh battery makes it all the more impressive. It’s actually only a touch bigger the Aspire Breeze 2 we recently reviewed, and that had a 1000mAh battery.

The VIM is an all-in-one device with just one button, so is practically a plug and plat device.

5 clicks of the fire button will switch the device off and on, so you can prevent any accidental fires in your pocket.

The VIM is unregulated from 4.2v to 3.1v and has a minimum resistance of 0.5 Ohm.

It also features overcharge protection, short circuit protection and battery vents for safety.

The VIM has an excellent bright LED light located in the center of the fire button.

When the fire button is pressed the color of the LED will indicate the battery and power status:

• Green: Fully charged (functioning at 3.8-4.2V)
• Blue: Half charge (functioning at 3.3-3.8V)
• Red: Low charge (functioning at 3.1-2.4V) you will notice a drop in performance at this stage.
• Red (Flashing 10 times): Device needs re-charging (below 3.1V)

The micro USB port for charging is located on the underside of the device. While this does keep the aesthetics nice and clean, it does mean you cannot charge the VIM while it’s standing upright.

It features a pass-through mode so you can vape and charge at the same time, and in some circumstances, you may need to. Not because the battery life is poor, it’s not, it’s incredible. But because the VIM only supports up to 1 Amp charging and takes 2.5-3 hours to charge from dead.

The only tank that can be used with the VIM mod is the included VIM tank.

That’s because it’s narrow in its design and features a unique twist and lock system to connect to the device.

Just like a child safety cap, you push the tank down into the device from the mouthpiece and twist clockwise to remove it.

The tank has a grip pattern on either side of it, and you can see when it’s locked as they will line up to the front of the device.

The VIM tank is TPD compliant so only has a 2ml capacity, and can be used with any of JAC Vapours S-coils.

To replace a coil you first need to remove the tank from the device, then much like any other, unscrew the base of the tank to reveal the coil. The base of the tank has plenty of knurling to make it easy.

Refilling the VIM tank is incredibly easy, it’s just your standard top fill tank.

Just unscrew the mouthpiece/drip tip counterclockwise. The tank will remain in the device, and you will see the two fill ports at the top of the tank.

They are not the largest fill ports, but ample enough to fit small bottle tips.

I’ve not noticed any leaking while filling the tank.

The VIM tank can be used with any of the S-Coils from JAC Vapour.

It comes with one 1.0 Ohm MTL coil, but we also received the 0.5 Ohm DTL coil so we could test both configurations of the device.

The 1.0 Ohm coil is designed to be used with the airflow on it’s smallest setting for a cigarette-like draw. It’s a perfect combination, providing a tight mouth to lung experience with excellent flavor. The coil was also fine keeping up with reasonably high VG liquid.

The 0.5 Ohm coil is suited to having the airflow on its largest setting. It provides a slightly restrictive but still cloudy direct to lung draw, also producing excellent flavor, and is more than capable of keeping up with high VG liquids.

The S-coil range has been used in lots of JAC Vapour devices, so you know what you are going to get with them. They are solid coils that give good flavor and have a decent longevity. My first 1.0 Ohm MTL coil easily saw me past a week of use.

The VIM AIO Kit performs excellently, especially as an MTL starter kit.

The 1.0 Ohm coil and tight airflow are the perfect combination for a nice smooth, flavorful vape, and the VIM never once stutters.

Those that are looking to use it as a direct to lung device have to be prepared for a slightly restrictive draw that’s not adjustable. However, it is a very smooth draw, and one which I think still delivers.

I complained previously about the Aspire Breeze 2 not having a constant voltage, as you notice the performance drop off. It should be the same with the VIM, as it’s also unregulated. However, it has such a large battery that you’re vaping in the upper voltage ranges for ages, so it doesn’t become an issue. In fact, it’s only really when you see the red light in the real lower percentages of battery that you notice a slight decrease in performance.

If I have to point out one negative on the VIM, it’s the airflow.

While both settings are perfectly fine for their intended use, it’s not entirely adjustable airflow.

Personally, I like the draw of both of the airflow settings they are exactly how I like to vape, but I could see some wanting to the ability to dial it in a bit.

Also, even though the rubber plug is anchored securely in the base of the device, if you do lose it, then you will lose the ability to have an MTL draw, and unfortunately they do not provide a spare in the kit.

There’s also been a couple of occasions, where my little pinky has wandered to the bottom of the device and blocked the airhole. But that’s more of a case me forgetting where the airflow is.

Nevertheless, because the airflow is on the base of the mod, it does lead to a quiet and smooth draw.

The flavor produced by the S-coils tested was really good in both MTL and DTL setups.

I’ve already compared the VIM to the Aspire Breeze 2, as that’s a recent competitor and it just falls a little shy of the Breeze. Not by much though, and it’s mainly down to the distance the vapor has to travel to reach your mouth.

But overall I think the design and battery life trump the Breeze 2 and most are going to really enjoy the flavor the VIM produces.

I’m amazed by the battery life of the VIM; it is phenomenal.

The fact that JAC Vapour has managed to fit a 2600mAh battery into such a compact chassis makes it the perfect pocket-friendly out and about device.

It should easily see you through a day of vaping. I nearly made it through two using it in an MTL setup. An absolutely excellent battery life.

JAC Vapour knows how to make brilliant starter kits, and the VIM AIO is another impressive string to their bow.

You can tell through the design that it’s a well thought out product. They know battery life and ease of use are majorly important, especially in a starter kit – The VIM delivers both and then some.

The S-coils deliver as always, and there’s plenty of options. The overall build quality and comfort of using the device is also exceptional.

I’d only recently said that the Aspire Breeze 2 was going to take some beating, and you know what JAC Vapour may have just done it.

The VIM is more of an all-in-one kit than a refillable pod mod, but both of these devices sit in the same market and are comparable in size. The Breeze 2 might just pip it on flavor and adjustable airflow, but the design, build quality, battery life and overall vape experience with the VIM might have just stolen the win for me.

It will certainly be my top recommended starter kit, especially if JAC Vapour start releasing the pre-filled tanks we’ve heard about.
