Augvape Templar RDA

Augvape’s latest entry into the market is a low profile 24mm RDA single-post rebuildable atomizer. The Templar RDA features an innovative “velocity clamp system” build deck, a highly-customizable airflow control, and a squonk BF pin.

It can be used in both dual and single coil configurations and is being marketed as an all-around RDA, offering both great flavor and vapor production.

The Good

Looks great, two top cap options, easy to use build deck, smooth airflow and produces great flavor.

The Bad

The standard top cap can get a little hot, no spare post screw.

The Bottom Line

Augvape has produced an incredibly versatile low profile RDA with an easy to use build deck that provides great flavor. I love that you get two top cap options, and the airflow is super smooth with both. There’s not much to dislike about the Templar RDA; it’s an excellent, flavorful dual coil RDA.

Design9.0
Augvape Templar RDA

The Templar is an RDA with two different but quite distinguishable guises.

There’s the sleek traditional looking low profile top cap with adjustable airflow, and then a frosted bullet cap.

One of the most appealing aspects of the Templar with either top cap is its size. Even though it is a 24mm diameter RDA, it is considerably shorter than many of the others in its category.

It features a velocity style clamp deck that can be set up in either single or dual coil mode and a BF pin to allow for squonking.

Augvape seems to have covered a lot of bases to make this a very versatile RDA.

Augvape Templar RDA

Style

I’m a big fan of low profile RDA’s, especially when paired with a small squonk mod.

The standard Templar top cop with adjustable airflow is not only compact in size but also quite an attractive looking RDA. IT has a simple 3 step design, with the base, airflow control, and drip tip all stepping in from each other.

The Templar RDA only comes in two color options, either black or stainless steel. We have the black version which has a really lovely anodized matte finish to it.

The Templar logo is etched in silver on the chamber, along with ‘Templar’ on the top cap. It’s a clean and understated design, which I think most will enjoy.

The top cap also has two indents on either side to make it easier to grip and turn.

The frosted bullet cap adds a whole other look to the RDA. In my opinion, it’s not as aesthetically appealing, but it does offer some benefits over the standard cap.

It’s made from some kind of heat resistant plastic, which not only means it doesn’t get as hot but also due to its slightly transparent appearance it makes it easier to see your juice level when you squonk.

Build Quality

Firstly the build quality of the build deck is very impressive and exactly what you’d expect from Augvape.

It’s gold-plated and features a titanium screw and Zirconium insulator plate, all exceptionally hard-wearing materials.

The standard top cap is made from Aluminum and comes with a Delrin 810 drip tip and a 510 adapter. The AFC control at first is extremely stiff and difficult to turn, but it does loosen up with use.

I’ve not been able to find the exact material that the bullet top cap is made from, but it is a thin heat-resistant plastic. It does feel very thin at the base where it slots onto the deck, so I’m not sure how well it will hold up over time. Although I’ve not noticed any splits or cracks during my use of it.

I’m glad that Augvape uses very strong O-rings on the base of the build deck, which helps to prevent any excess juice from leaking out. However, it does mean that both caps are an incredibly tight squeeze to fit on, and definitely require some lubrication before using.

Augvape Templar RDA

Innovation

I wouldn’t exactly class anything as innovative with the templar RDA.

The build deck is based on a velocity deck, but Augvape has just added a simple single screw and new materials.

The three-layer airflow control is very similar to that of the Drop RDA, and the frosted bullet cap we’ve seen on any many other RDA’s like the Wasp Nano.

However, Augvape as implemented all these aspects in their own way, which does allow it to be a relatively unique and versatile package.

Build Deck9.5
Augvape Templar RDA

The Templar RDA build deck not only looks clean and simple, but it’s also straightforward to use and build on.

It is a velocity style clamp deck, with only one screw to loosen and tighten to clamp your coils.

The “T” shaped clamp system has an integrated plate made of Zirconium dioxide (the same material used for tooth fillings). This plate separates the top and bottom leads of your coil(s).

Augvape has used this wall style deck before on the likes of the Boreas V2, where it separates the chamber into two. However here it’s a cleverly engineered clamp system instead of screws to secure your coils.

In the center base of the deck is the juice hole, which seems to channel the juice very evenly into both chambers of the deck when you squonk. The well itself is approximately 4.6mm in depth, not the largest but definitely more than adequate.

I think most people will find the Templar an incredibly easy deck to work with, and you only need to make sure you line both coils up before tightening down on the clamp screw.

Wicking

Wicking couldn’t be easier there’s plenty of room in the deck to place your cotton down into the well.

There’s enough clearance between the deck and top caps that your cotton will not get dislodged when replacing the top cap.

Augvape Templar RDA

Squonking

The squonk pin that comes with the Templar RDA is gold-plated.

It does seem to have a very small squonk hole, which leads to the squonk action being a little restricted and slow.

However, that’s not a bad thing because it’s quite a shallow deck and it has side airflow you wouldn’t want to run the risk of over squonking easily.

As it stands I’ve not had the Templar leak on me once, you soon get used to a half squeeze to saturate the base of your wicks.

Squonking is even easier with the frosted bullet cap, as you can see your juice enter into the deck.

Augvape Templar RDA

AIrflow

The Templar RDA gives you plenty of options when it comes to airflow.

As mentioned before, the standard top cap features a stepped design similar to that of The Drop RDA.

The airflow comprises of three rows of two. Each row alternates between one long and one short slot. The long slots are 4mm x 1mm and the short 2mm x 1mm in size.

Rotating the top cap gives you the ability to shut off entire or partial rows, given you a vast amount of options from a fully wide open to restricted lung vape.

The frosted bullet cap has two snakebite style angled holes on each side and is non-adjustable.

Performance9.2
Augvape Templar RDA

Augvape’s Templar RDA is both impressive with vapor production and at delivering fantastic flavor.

The versatility offered by the Templar is excellent. It can handle all levels of wattages and draw styles.

It seems to be quite forgiving with either single or dual coil builds and has handled large coils and low resistances with ease.

The only one caveat is that the standard cap can get a little hot, and with such a short 810 drip tip you do sometimes find your lips touching the metal top cap. Using a slightly longer 810 doesn’t seem to affect the vape, and makes it a lot easier to chain vape.

The frosted bullet cap has no such issue and can really handle chain vaping without getting too hot, but obviously has non-adjustable airflow.

Flavor

I’d have to say the Templar is right up there when it comes to flavor on a dual coil RDA.

Of course, this is mainly down to it being such a low profile RDA, but the smooth airflow certainly helps.

I prefer to have it set at slightly lower wattage with one row closed off on the airflow, and that gives you an excellent restricted lung draw with a saturated flavorful vape.

Augvape Templar RDA

Airflow

The airflow on both caps is really lovely and smooth, and there’s no turbulence.

The standard cap fully open is still a little restricted with the draw, but open enough to produce some really thick clouds.

The frosted bullet cap is a little more restricted, it’s probably like having the first row of the standard cap closed off. However, that’s how I like it and I think the airflow on the frosted cap is also even smoother.

Augvape Templar RDA

Single Coil Mode

The Templar comes with an Ultem block which allows you to close off one side of the deck and use it in single coil mode.

I usually find that this type of single coil set up is nowhere near as good as a dedicated single coil RDA, and even though that’s still the case with the Templar RDA, it does do a very good job.

The airflow is obviously going to be more restricted with one side closed off, but it still capable of producing good flavor.

As I said it won’t be as good as a single coil RDA, but for those that like to mix it about, it will be more than sufficient.

Verdict

Augvape rarely disappoints when it comes to making quality atomizers, and the Templar is another impressive RDA.

It looks great, has excellent build quality, an easy to use build deck, comes with two top caps and can produce some superb flavor.

Augvape may not have created a revolutionary RDA with the Templar, but what they have done is produce one of the most versatile RDA packages that I’ve seen so far this year.

If you are someone who likes dual coil flavorful setups with a slightly restricted lung vape, then the Augvape Templar RDA is an excellent choice, and it’s also incredibly affordable.
