The iJust D20 by Eleaf is an updated version of a popular vape pen line that brings it more in line with the verging pod systems on the market.

It features a 1500mAh battery with three power settings, a maximum output of 30W, and USB Type-C for charging at a 1.5A rate.

It comes with a 3ml (2ml TPD) capacity cartridge/tank, easy magnetic connection, and a slide-to-fill mechanism. 

It utilizes the GTL coil range, which has a push-to-fit design and comes with a 0.8Ω and 1.2Ω coil in the kit.

The iJust D20 is available in 4 colors: Black, Dark Blue, Pink, and Silver.

Design & Style

The Elaf iJust D20 may look a little dated and simplistic by today’s standards of vape devices.

However, there’s something so comforting and right about using a traditional-style vape pen.

The iJust attempts to cross the line between the old and new with a vape pen/pod hybrid design.

Its form is very much that of a typical vape pen with a 20mm diameter size and long slim 136mm tube design.

The device is clean and minimalistic, with only the fire button on one side and the USB-C charge port on the reverse.

The design has a nice touch, with the base having a grooved circular rubber pad. This protrudes slightly from the mod and provides protection when placing the device down.

The pod design aspect comes with the cartridge or tank that the iJust D20 pairs with. It is essentially a pod that utilizes Eleaf’s GTL push-fit coils.

The cartridge or pod has 4 magnets on the base and connects to the device by just placing it inline, then it snaps into place. They are powerful magnets, but it’s still nice and easy to pull the pod to remove it.

However, you will only ever have to remove the pod when changing the coil. It features a slide-to-fill mechanism on the top, which beats many pod vapes that still don’t have such an easy fill method.

The iJust D20 also has a fully adjustable airflow control ring that sits on the device beneath where the pod connects.

It’s a vast airflow control ring that aims to deliver either a DTL or MTL draw based on how many air holes you have exposed. 

It has dual-side airflow, and there are lines of air holes on either side. It starts with 3 small (1mm) that can be used for MTL. Then as you open the airflow further, you will see 4 larger holes (2mm) that can be used for DTL. You can have a combination of both if you slide halfway.

The Eleaf iJust D20 has good build quality. Overall the design is a simplistic, minimalist vape pen with just enough tweaks to bring a more modern pod functionality to it.

Features

The iJust D20 with a 1500mAh internal battery, which can be charged via USB Type-C. It has a charge rate of 1.5A.

It has a maximum output of 30W, with the range being determined by the resistance of the coil attached. 

The D20 has 3 different power settings: High, Medium, and Low.

The fire button has an LED ring all the way around it, which shows you the current power setting and battery status via the color shown.

The device also features auto-draw functionality along with manual operation via the fire button.

Operating the iJust D20 is incredibly simple with the following controls:

• 5 Clicks of fire button = On/Off
• 3 Clicks of fire button = change power level

The three power levels are:

• High = Green Light
• Medium = Blue Light
• Low = Red Light

When in use and charging, the following colors of the LED show the battery status:

• Green = 60-100%
• Blue = 20-59%
• Red = < 20%

The Eleaf iJust D20 has several safety protections as you’d expect from a modern vape pen, including Overtime, Short Circuit, and Low Voltage. All are highlighted with the LED flashing if the problem arises.

iJust D20 Cartridge/Pod

The D20 cartridge that comes with the kit has a 3ml juice capacity (or 2ml in TPD areas).

It has a magnetic connection to the device and seamlessly slots into place.

The cartridge uses Eleaf’s GTL push-fit coils. They simply slot into the base of the pod. When they are pushed into the pod, some of the bottom of the coil is still exposed. This is what makes a connection when attached to the device.

The pod also has a top slide-to-fill mechanism. It’s as simple as we’ve seen on other tanks and pods but is well executed. 

There is a small droplet symbol on one side of the cartridge. This is where you push to reveal the fill whole. It’s a reasonably decent-sized fill hole at 3.2mm and should accommodate most bottle tip sizes.

The slide mechanism easily pushes back and clicks when in place. The only slight negative to note about the filling mechanism is that when you push the top, the cartridge wiggles slightly in the device. This is because the magnet connection breaks as you move it. It’s not a deal breaker and doesn’t prevent you from filling, but some might find it annoying.

The whole cartridge is made from plastic but has a very large clear middle section, so it’s easy to see your juice levels even when it’s low.

The pod or cartridge comes with a removable 510 drip tip. It’s one of those drip tips that try to cover the bases by sitting between an MTL and DTL draw. I don’t mind it for either, but I think you will get better results using your own designated drip tip for a tighter MTL draw. 

The D20 comes with two GTL coils in the kit:

• 0.8Ω GTL = 12-18W range
• 1.2Ω GTL = 7-13W range

Performance

The iJust D20 is a decent performer and does well at covering an MTL and DTL draw.

However, it has a few minor issues and won’t be the sort of device that will wow you with its vape experience.

Firstly, the airflow adjustment control is very good. You can certainly go from a tight MTL draw with just one small air hole exposed to a wide open draw with all 4 large air holes open.

The auto draw function works really well when you have an MTL setup. However, as soon as you start letting a lot more airflow through for direct-to-lung, it doesn’t really function. So you will have to rely on the fire button with DTL vaping.

The 0.8Ω coil and 1.2Ω deliver good flavor, which will satisfy most. However, it’s not quite up there competing with the best mesh coil pod systems. Nevertheless, I still had no real complaints and enjoyed my time using either of the coils.

The power settings do make a difference when adjusting between them. I liked the sweet spot of using the 0.8Ω coil on a medium MTL draw on the medium (blue) power setting.

This delivered a warm MTL vape that was pretty conservative on power consumption.

The 1500mAh battery does a very good job at lasting with these coils, and you will easily make it through a full day of vaping. Recharging the battery is also fairly decent with the 1.5A charge rate. It does also have a passthrough so you can vape the device while charging.

Verdict

The Eleaf iJust D20 is a very good modern vape pen. 

It has a simplistic vape pen design with all the functionality of a modern-day pod system. Push-to-fit replaceable coils, fully adjustable airflow, top fill mechanism, 3 power settings, and a large 1500mAh battery are even a step up from most.

It is an incredibly easy-to-use vape pen that can suit both beginner and experienced vapers. In addition, it has a versatile range delivering both a decent MTL and DTL vape. 

It is an ideal vape pen for beginners or those wanting to step up from disposable vapes.

However, if you are looking for big cloud chucking abilities, this isn’t really the device for that.
