The OXBAR RRD is not like your typical type of disposable vape. It’s actually more of a hybrid between a disposable and a pod mod

The name RRD stands for Refillable and Rechargeable Disposable, which pretty much explains the device.

It features a 5.5ml capacity pod integrated onto the device and is refillable. The RRD also has an in-built 550mAh battery which can be recharged via USB Type C.

Once the coil starts to lose performance, you will then need to replace the entire device. However, it is stated to be suitable for a minimum of 3 refills or 8000 puffs.

The OXBAR RRD is available in 10 different colors: Gold, Blue Gradient, Energy, Black, Cherry Pink, Light Green, Peri Blue, Purple, Sakura Gradient and Silver.

OXBAR RRD Disposable Review

Design

I always find getting my hands on a refillable disposable device a little disappointing. Not just because I find them a little unnecessary and think you might as well invest in a quality refillable pod vape, but because many of them are well constructed, and it feels like a waste to dispose of them.

The OXBAR RRD certainly falls into this category. It’s well made, has a very good feel to it, and the build quality is on par with most pod mods on the market.

It also has a very individual sleek styling to it that I like. I just wished it used a removable pod instead of an integrated one.

OXBAR RRD Disposable

The RRD measures 76.5 x 34.5 x 13.5mm. As a result, it’s very slender, lightweight, and easy to slot into your pocket.

It has a rectangular box-style shape but with slightly curved edges, which makes it easy to hold in the palm of your hand.

The main body of the RRD is nice and simple, with just a small ‘OXBAR RRD’ logo. It also has a pleasant metallic finish, adding to the premium, more traditional pod mod looks.

The top third of the device is the pod section. Again, it has a decent amount of tint, but not so much that you can’t see your juice within. That’s one thing the RRD does very well, as you can see right to the base of the pod section and your very last drop of juice.

OXBAR RRD Disposable Pods

The RRD can hold up to 5.5ml of juice, and I’m told there will also be a TPD version with a 2ml capacity limit.

The fill port is on the side of the pod. It’s a rather large rubber plug that’s easy enough to open and close, and the fill hole will support large fill tip bottles.

The mouthpiece for the RRD device is integrated into the pod. It’s another design aspect that I really like about the whole device. It has an oval-shaped design with a relatively wide bore. It’s very comfortable to use and just suits the whole overall aesthetic of the device.

On the base of the RRD disposable device, you will find the USB-C port for charging. There is also an LED indicator light and a small red button. The button is actually an on/off switch, and the device comes deactivated (which is wise as it will not be filled with juice).

OXBAR RRD Disposable

There are no other buttons on the device, as it is only draw-activation which is to be expected. There is also no form of adjustable airflow, which is a bit of a disappointment.

Another design choice I’m disappointed with is the LED lights. They are in the typical place for a disposable, and I like that OXBAR has made them an ‘X’ shape. However, they only light up white, and there is no real indication of your battery status while using the device. They could’ve easily used different colors to highlight different charged statuses.

OXBAR RRD Disposable Mouthpiece

I know a lot of disposable devices don’t have battery gauges. However, in my opinion, with a device of this quality, it is a significant negative not to have a proper battery status light.

Overall I like the simple styling and build quality of the OXBAR RRD, even if I’m a bit miffed at who would purchase this device over one of OXVA’s excellent pod vapes.

RRD Kit

The RRD is also going to be sold in a kit version. This means it will also come with some ejuice from OXBAR so that you can get started immediately rather than sourcing your own vape juice.

There will be a 15ml bottle (5% nic strength) with the standard version and a 10ml bottle (2% nic strength) with the TPD version.

There are eight flavor options available:

  • Blue Razz
  • Banana Ice Cream
  • Pink Lemonade
  • Energy
  • Peach Mango
  • Fruity Hawaii
  • Watermelon Ice
  • Pina Colada

Performance

While testing the OXBAR RRD, I used both a 20mg and 50mg nic salt juice that I’m very familiar with. It’s also a 70VG juice, as I wanted to see how well the mesh coil did with wicking a slightly thicker liquid.

I’m glad to report that the RRD worked just like any other disposable regarding wicking, and I never once got a dry hit or felt it was not wicking adequately, even with a bit of chain vaping.

The 1.0Ω mesh coil delivers decent flavor with a good throat hit (when using high nic strength). I would say the flavor produced is on par with most disposables and pod vapes.

However, that’s not enough, in my opinion. I would’ve really liked the RRD to shine a little bit more and give me a reason to choose it over another type of device. If I were to compare the RRD to OXVA’s excellent Xlim series, the Xlim pod vapes would win hands down, not just in terms of features but also performance. So why not just purchase one of them and save the environment from extra waste?

OXBAR RRD Disposable

The draw from the RRD is what I would classify as a loose MTL. I would’ve liked it to be more of a medium to tight MTL draw, and the fact that there’s no adjustable airflow is a real letdown.

The RRD does a good job of delivering the refill or puff count. I got to my fourth refill before the performance really dropped off. So it worked for well over 15ml of juice, which in comparison to other disposables or even pod vapes, is a decent accomplishment.

Remember, at that point, you must dispose of the device and move on to another one.

That said, I may be coming down a little harsh on the RRD for what it is. Yes, I would much prefer to use a refillable and reusable pod vape, but I’m sure plenty of vapers want an easy-to-use disposable vape with which they can use their own vape juice. The RRD definitely feels this need and does it with decent performance, build quality, and style.

Bad Vibes

Verdict

The OXBAR RRD does leave me scratching my head a little, as I’m not entirely sure who this device is aimed at.

I would’ve preferred them to have created a replaceable pod/coil version in this style.

It has many things going for it; good build quality, sleek styling, and decent performance.

However, the lack of adjustable airflow and no real battery gauge, do just leave it as a refillable disposable that can’t compete with pod vapes.

If that is what you are looking for, then great!

However, for everyone else, I’d say go for something like the OXVA Xlim series. You’ll get more features and slightly better performance.

OUR VIBE

The OXBAR RRD device has good build quality, sleek styling, and decent performance but it lacks adjustable airflow and a battery gauge which limits its competition with pod vapes. It is better for someone to go for the OXVA Xlim series for more features and better performance.
