SMOK Trinity Alpha Kit | Preview

The Trinity Alpha Kit is the latest open pod system by SMOK, featuring a 1000mAh internal, 2.8ml capacity pods and two Nord Mesh Coils.

The Trinity Alpha Kit is the latest in a long line of pod kits from the prolific manufacturers SMOK.

If you’re thinking you’ve seen that design somewhere else before? Then you’d be right.

The Trinity Alpha bares a striking resemblance to one of the most popular pod systems on the market, the Lost Vape Orion.

The Trinity Alpha even features a similarly shaped pod which integrates into the body of the device, and a small latch to release the pod. However, SMOK has opted for placing the latch at the top of the device, and the pod is somewhat more angular than that of the Orion.

The Trinity Alpha pod also has a 2.8ml capacity, and importantly uses replaceable coils, the same as the Nord. There are two included in the kit, a 0.6-Ohm (DTL) mesh coil, and a 0.8-ohm (MTL) mesh coil.

The Trinity Alpha pods also have a couple of other advantages over that of the Orion, it features a slide-to-fill cap and utilizes a replaceable 510 drip tip.

The Trinity Alpha is powered by an internal 1000mAh battery, which features 1amp charging. It also has 3 different power modes of Soft, Normal, and Hard which range between 15 and 25 Watts.

There’s a mode button to switch between each setting, and 3 LED indicator lights to notify which mode it’s on. There’s also another small LED light to show the battery status of the device.

The body of the device is made from Zinc Alloy but also features colorful resin side panels.

The Trinity Alpha Kit is currently available in 6 different colors – Bright Black, Prism Chrome, Prism Rainbow, Prism Blue, Red and Prism Gold.

SMOK’s strapline for the Trinity Alpha is ‘Taking the Lead.’ I can’t help but think that ‘Taking the Piss’ might have been a more suitable one.

It seems SMOK has no shame in copying other popular pods on the market. First, the MICO bared a striking resemblance to the SV Mi pod, and now the Trinity Alpha looks uncannily like the Lost Vape Orion.

However, I will cut them some slack, as ultimately it’s just the form factor and the styling of the pods that’s the same. SMOK do seem to have put some thought into the design with regards to the top-fill method and have made sure it’s not an all-in-one pod so that you can use their excellent mesh Nord Mesh coils.

I’m certainly not going to be the last person to say SMOK have tried to rip-off the Orion with this design.

However, ultimately the Trinity Alpha is probably going to be more affordable than the Orion, and it uses replaceable coils (and very good ones at that). So if SMOK does a good job with the build quality and performance, I could see the Trinity Alpha flying off the shelves.
