The Vaporesso LUXE X pod kit looks like something from the future with its exposed board design.

The LUXE X features a 1500mAh battery capable of outputting 40W of power and covering both MTL and DTL vaping.

The included pods have a 5ml capacity and use Vaporesso’s new ‘CORTEX’ mesh coils for maximum flavor. There is a 0.4Ω and a 0.8Ω pod included in the kit.

The LUXE X is available in 7 color variations: Silver, Black, Purple, Gray, Blue, Green, and Red.

Design & Style

The LUXE X is a unique and attractive-looking device. Vaporesso has gone with a futuristic design with a transparent shell exposing and highlighting the Axon board inside.

However, it’s not all about the looks, as Vaporesso has paid particular attention to making the transparent shell durable. It comprises three layers: an abrasion-resistant coating, a stain-resistant coating, and the PCTG tube. As a result, Vaporesso claims it is ‘200% stronger’ and has performed 1000 abrasion tests against the surface.

I’m not sure what they are claiming it’s stronger than, but I can tell you from my testing it has proved to be a durable device.

The transparent shell has a tinted black base that fades away as you move up the device. This is where 3 LED indicator lights shine through when the device is in use or charging to show battery status.

Along with the Axon board that you can see front and center of the device, you have a ‘Luxe X’ logo in a shiny holographic style that sits among a hexagonal pattern.

You can also see the safety logos and battery capacity (1500mAh) written along one side of the device and a Vaporesso logo on the other.

The remaining body of the device is a matte metallic section. This is where the fire button is located, and on the reverse side is a Vaporesso logo.

The fire button protrudes the perfect amount and is easy to locate without looking. This is essential as the device lacks an auto draw switch and has to be operated manually via the button.

On the sides of the metal section, you will see two air holes. One side is slightly larger than the other, as you can adjust the airflow on the LUXE X by the pod’s position – more on this later.

On the base of the device, you will find the USB-C port for charging. Unfortunately, it’s not recessed, so you may need to be careful when placing the device down so that you don’t get dirt in the charge port.

The pods connect to the device via 4 solid magnets and hold perfectly in the device with no wiggle. The pods are also tinted to finish off the whole sleek styling of the kit.

The LUXE X is not the smallest of pod kits, but it’s still pocket-friendly, measuring 93 x 29 x 21.5mm. 

Overall I love the look and styling of the LUXE X, it’s incredibly sexy, and even though it’s larger than most pod kits, it’s still pocketable, and that large 1500mAh is worth it.

Features

The LUXE X looks like a pod that would be packed full of features. However, it’s quite the opposite.

There are no adjustable power settings, and it lacks an auto-draw switch.

It does have a type of adjustable airflow by placing the pod inside in different rotations – but that’s limited.

The LUXE X comes with an in-built 1500mAh battery that supports a 1.5A charge rate. However, I would’ve liked to have seen a faster charge rate here, as it took approximately 60 minutes to fully charge from dead.

The device has 3 LED lights that indicate the battery status with the following:

• 3 lights = 60-100%
• 2 lights = 30-60%
• 1 light = 0-30%

It’s a little disappointing that it’s only 3 lights and not something more granular like with other pod kits.

Operating the LUXE X couldn’t be more straightforward as it’s such a simple device: 

• On/Off – 5 clicks of the fire button
• Fire the device by pressing the Fire button.

LUXE X Pods

The LUXE X comes with two different pods in the kit, but they both have a 5ml juice capacity (2ml TPD areas).

The pods have coils that use Vaporesso’s latest ‘COREX’ heating technology which is supposed to offer 50% more flavor and 50% more life.

The resistance of the pods included are:

• 0.4Ω – designed for restricted DL vaping
• 0.8Ω – designed for MTL vaping

The fill port for the pods is located on the base. It’s a large rubber plug that’s easy to open and close. The fill hole is also nice and large and should accommodate any sized bottle tip. 

The pods have a duck-billed style mouthpiece, but it’s slim and flat, making it comfortable to use.

Airflow

The pods can be placed into the device in two different rotations to adjust the airflow.

It’s something Vaporesso has done before. But, unfortunately, while it does make a slight difference to the airflow, it’s not the best adjustment method.

I also find it almost impossible to tell which way I’m placing the pod in after filling it. So I need to take a vape and then rotate it 180° to see what airflow draw I have it in.

Performance

The Vaporesso LUXE X doesn’t disappoint with its performance, but there are a few things to note.

Firstly, the LUXE X is capable of both MTL and DTL vaping, which is rare for a pod kit of its size. 

While it’s true that it can deliver a DTL and MTL vape, they both come with caveats. First, the DTL vape is restricted direct-to-lung, which is expected from a pod kit. This is the same with either rotation of the pod/airflow, just slightly different restrictions.

The MTL vape can only really be described as a loose MTL vape. So if you like a tight to medium MTL vape like me, the LUXE X might not be the device for you.

On its tightest setting, it gets close to a medium draw, and after a while, I didn’t mind using it. However, as soon as I turned to one of my Wenax devices, it just didn’t compare, and I was reminded why I love the MTL draw on them.

The power delivery is the one thing that the LUXE X does well, and it definitely helps the draw. As soon as you press the fire button, it delivers vapor.

I had to check the finer details on the power delivery, and it turns out that with the 0.4Ω coil, the LUXE X fires at 32W, and with the 0.8Ω, it is at 16W.

Both power settings are perfect for the coils, but I still would’ve liked to have seen adjustable power settings.

If you like loose MTL draws or restricted DTL draws, the LUXE X will be a great companion. It’s also worth mentioning the airflow is smooth throughout.

Again it’s just a shame that there’s no full airflow control with the LUXE X.

As for the flavor delivered from each coil, it’s great. It’s as good as any mesh coil in a pod. Whether Vaporesso’s CORTEX provides 50% more flavor is debatable, but I can’t complain about the flavor performance.

The same can be said for the longevity of the pods/coils. I’ve been through 20ml of 70VG juice in the 0.4Ω pod, and it’s still going strong.

The battery life of the LUXE X is great, as you’d expect for a 1500mAh capacity pod device. You will generally be able to get through one pod (5ml) of juice with the 0.4Ω coil (at 32W). I was achieving 10ml (two pods) with the 0.8Ω coil before it needed a recharge.

The charge speeds are relatively fast, at around an hour from flat. However, plenty of other pod kits support faster charging than the LUXE X. 

Another thing to note is that I experienced no leaking from the pods in my time using them, which is another plus for the LUXE X.

Verdict

There’s no denying the LUXE X is a sexy-looking pod kit. 

The coils deliver fantastic flavor and have a good lifespan. It will please anyone looking for a restricted DTL or loose MTL pod kit. 

However, it is lacking in certain aspects. For example, the airflow control is limiting, no adjustable power settings, and no auto draw firing – which is a real shame.

That said if you want a larger pod kit that can deliver an RDTL or loose MTL draw. The LUXE X, with its 5ml juice capacity and 1500mAh battery, is an impressive performer.
