The Argus Z is the latest pod system from Voopoo to enter the Argus family.

The Argus Z pod kit is all about simplicity. It features an internal 900mAh battery that is rechargeable via USB-C.

It has a maximum output of 17W, but there is no adjustable wattage or airflow; all is determined by the pod used. It comes with a 0.7Ω Argus pod and is compatible with other Argus pods.

The Voopoo Argus Z pod kit is available in 7 color variations: White, Mint Silver, Navy Blue, Golden, Rose Pink, Ruby Red, and Black.

Design & Style

The Argus Z has few features, so there is no screen or buttons, which has enabled Voopoo to keep the styling simple.

However, simple doesn’t have to be boring. I think they’ve done a great job at still making the Argus Z look sleek, stylish, and modern.

The Argus Z comes in various color options (we have the Navy Blue). Each of these has a two-tone design, some more subtle than others. The bottom half is a smooth matte finish, while the top features diagonally slanted ridges. 

In the top section, there are also three angled LEDs for the battery indicator that follow the ridged lines. Again, it’s a simple design choice that just gives it a nice clean overall look.

On the reverse side of the top section, you will find the USB-C port for charging.

The only other markings on the device come from the ‘Argus Z’ logo neatly printed on the bottom section of the device. It’s nicely done on our blue sample, as it’s a darker color that’s not in your face.

The Argus Z is also an incredibly light and pocket-friendly pod vape. It measures 91.45 x 27.5 x 14.8mm, which is nice and compact for such a device.

It’s constructed from Aluminum alloy, making it lightweight and relatively robust.

We’ll cover the Argus pod in a little more detail later. But it’s worth mentioning they play a significant part in the design. They have a lovely smooth curvature to them, which really finishes off the elegant look. They are also nice and transparent, so you can always see your juice level.

Overall, I really love the styling of the Argus Z. It’s a simple yet elegant little pod vape that doesn’t feel or look cheap.

Features

The Argus Z is an easy-to-use pod kit that doesn’t come with many features to confuse the user.

It has an inbuilt 900mAh battery with a maximum power output of 17W. The power is automatically set and determined by the resistance of the coil attached.

I couldn’t find information on the chipset inside. Still, I’m assuming Voopoo has gone with the same GENE AI 1.2 as their previous Argus devices.

There’s also no information on the charge rate. While it utilizes USB-C for charging, it takes around 60-90 minutes to completely charge, so I assume it’s about 1A. However, it does feature pass-through, so you can still use it while charging.

There are no buttons on the device, so it can only be activated via the auto-draw switch. 

The device’s three LEDs flash green when a pod is attached, so you know it is active. They then illuminate green when vaping, showing your battery status (by the lit number).

While charging, the LEDs will be a solid blue color and then turn green when fully charged.

The Argus Z has all the usual safety protections, and if you exceed the vaping time, the LEDs will flash green twice. If there’s a short circuit, they will flash once.

Argus Pod

The Argus Z comes with the same 0.7Ω pod as the Argus Pod we have recently reviewed.

As we’ve covered in previous Argus device reviews, they are fantastic pods that Voopoo has spent a lot of time refining.

The Argus pods have a multi-layer design with 4 small airholes, which help prevent any leaking. It does an excellent job, and I’ve never had any leaking issues using any of the Argus pods.

The pods have a 2ml capacity and have a side fill port which is covered by an ample rubber plug. The fill port is nice and large and can accommodate large fill bottle tips.

The resistance of the pod is marked on the rubber fill port on the pod. The Argus Z only comes with one 0.7Ω pod but is compatible with the whole Argus pod range, including the excellent 1.2Ω.

The pods connect to the Argus Z device through magnets, and it’s a good connection with very minimal play, and they are still easy to remove.

As mentioned before, I really like that the pods are only slightly tinted. Hence, it’s extremely easy to see your juice levels. They are also incredibly comfortable in the mouth and perfect for an MTL draw.

Performance

The performance of the Voopoo Argus Z pod kit is as good as any of the previous Argus devices.

This is primarily thanks to the excellent Argus pods that deliver absolutely fantastic flavor.

However, the Argus Z lacks airflow adjustment, so you can’t get a tight MTL draw like you can with the Argus Pod. The draw from the Argus Z and 0.7Ω resistance pod is more of a loose MTL draw. It’s still very pleasant, but just something to be aware of if you like a tight MTL.

This might be different if you used one of Voopoo’s 1.2Ω resistance Argus pods. Sadly, this brings me to another negative: only having one pod in the kit and not having the 1.2Ω pod that I believe will pair nicely with this device.

The auto-draw sitch on the Argus Z is excellent and fires at the slightest pull, which is what we’ve come to expect from Voopoo.

Voopoo claims the 800mAh internal battery will see you through 2 days of vaping. Obviously, that depends on the individual’s vaping patterns. I was easily clearing a day through extensive testing, but two was definitely a stretch.

I know Voopoo has made the Argus Z to be the simplest and most affordable of the Argus pod line (hence why it only comes with one pod). However, I’m also slightly disappointed that they didn’t give us better charging speeds. I know it uses USB-C but 90 minutes to fully charge isn’t great, especially when you compare it to its siblings (the Argus P1 has supersonic 3A charging).

That being said, there’s nothing major to complain about with the actual performance of the Argus Z. It’s incredibly affordable, easy to use, and delivers a quality vape, which is as good as more expensive pod vapes on the market.

Verdict

Voopoo is on to such a good thing with the Argus pod range. 

They already have two excellent pod kits, and the Argus Z slots in perfectly as the stripped-back, more affordable option.

It delivers a fantastic vape experience with quality flavor from the impressive Argus pods.

While it’s a little disappointing, it only comes with one 0.7Ω pod, doesn’t have adjustable airflow, and has relatively slow charging speeds. These are things you can look past if you want an entry-level pod vape that’s sleek looking, easy to use, but still delivers where it matters – vape quality.
