VOOPOO has just released the latest edition, the Drag 4. It’s great to see a dual 18650 high-wattage device when there has recently been so much focus on pod systems and disposables.

The Drag 4 has a power range of 5–177W and utilizes two replaceable 18650s.

VOOPOO has made changes to the menu and screen layout, along with including a designated locking switch.

There’s also a new C-Frame design for better access to your batteries.

Design & Style

The Drag design language is probably one of the most distinctive among vape mods.

VOOPOO has always done an excellent job of ensuring that all Drag devices have a similar look and feel and are clearly part of the same family. 

So it’s no surprise that the Drag 4 looks and feels remarkably similar to its predecessor, the Drag 3.

However, they have made a few little changes to the design and one rather significant one.

That significant change is they have done away with the spring-loaded battery hinge on the bottom of the device and have instead opted for a C-Frame design.

The C-shaped battery sled is magnetic and fits superbly on the device with no play whatsoever. It’s also easy to remove and replace and is a far better method, in my opinion.

The door or battery cover itself is also a lovely mix of leather on the backside for comfort and a wooden finish on the sides. I know that the Drag 4 comes in many different color and material options, but there’s something about the styling on the one we have in for review that I just love – classic and clean.

The other apparent changes in the design of the Drag 4 are the screen and the details within it. The screen appears to me to be brighter and clearer than on the Drag 3. 

VOOPOO has also overhauled the layout of the screen. We now have larger wattage output numbers, and the battery now has two icons along with percentages. Both of these changes are welcomed, making the whole display more appealing and easier to use at a quick glance.

The Drag 4 now also has the addition of a designated QS lock switch that sits above the adjustment and firing buttons and beneath the screen. Again this is something we’ve seen on other Drag devices and is great to have on the Drag mod.

There is a USB-C port on the front side of the device beneath the screen and buttons. It sits flush with the device and allows the Drag 4 to charge your two 18650 batteries at a 3A charge speed. 

However, we still recommend charging your batteries externally from any device if possible.

As for the rest of the design and build quality of the Drag 4, it’s everything you’d expect. VOOPOO has always done a stellar job with the build quality, and it’s no different here.

The Drag 4 comes in a shade taller than the Drag 3, and I think it has just a touch more weight. Otherwise, it’s quite an incremental upgrade from an external design standpoint.

Features

The Drag 4 is a dual 18650 device that is capable of outputting up to 177W.

It comes with VOOPOO’s new GENE.TT 2.0 chipset. It features 4 different power modes:

Smart = Automatically sets power based on the resistance of the coil.

RBA = Full variable wattage (with no limits)

ECO = Battery saving mode 

TC = Temperature control supporting Ni200, Ti, SS316, SS430 materials.

VOOPOO has said they have made improvements to the TC mode, which now supports where it ‘accurately identifies these 4 most commonly used heating wire materials’.

The Drag 4 also supports USB-C charging with less charging time thanks to its 5V/3A support.

Operating the device is as simple as the previous Drags with the following:

• Power ON/OFF: 5 clicks of the fire button. 
• Enter Menu: Press the +/- buttons together.
• From the menu, you can select Mode, Switch, Puff Reset, About, or Screen Color.
• SWITCH mode: Gives you control over what the QS switch does with the following settings: 
• Full Lock – Locks all buttons, including the fire button.
• Power On/Off – Saves you from hitting the fire button 5 times. Wattage – Locks the +/- adjustment buttons, but the device can still fire.

Performance

There are no surprises that the Drag 4 mod performs brilliantly across the board.

It’s easy to use, and the Gene Chipset is super responsive, with all the options you’d require from an advanced mod.

The device fires almost instantly, and it feels like the setting wattage is definitely the output you get from the device.

I also feel like it’s an efficient chip regarding battery drainage. It’s nice that VOOPOO also implemented an ‘ECO’ mode, but to be honest, I never felt the need to use it.

The battery drainage was equal across both batteries, and the power delivery was consistent throughout.

I’m not a TC vaper, and I primarily used the device with VOOPOO’s UFORCE L tank and PnP coils, so I didn’t really check out the temp control performance. However, previous Drag always had reliable TC, so I don’t see why that would be different here.

It’s worth mentioning again that the Drag 4 is available in a kit paired with the new UFORCE L tank. It’s a fantastic pairing, and the new tank is very impressive.

The Drag 4 also has the same setting as other Drags, where if left unused for a while, it puts everything to sleep, which can be a minor annoyance for some.

Verdict

The Drag 4 is an excellent dual-battery high-wattage device.

VOOPOO has done an excellent job at slightly improving an already impressive device.

The new screen layout and menu simplified menu systems make it incredibly easy to use. 

The inclusion of the locking switch also improves the overall usability, and it’s great that you can customize its action.

The device itself has fantastic build quality, and the new C-Frame battery cover is a vast improvement.

Under the hood, it’s pretty much the same, and there are no complaints there as it delivers with the power output and instant firing. 

The Drag 4 is possibly one of the best dual 18650 you can get on the market today.
