Design & Build Quality

VOOPOO has taken an evolutionary approach with the DRAG 5’s design, refining rather than revolutionizing.

At first glance, you might mistake it for the DRAG 4, but a closer look reveals some subtle yet significant improvements.

The DRAG 5 maintains the sleek, boxy profile we’ve come to expect from the DRAG series, but it’s slightly larger than its predecessor. Measuring 89.30mm tall, 55mm wide, and 27.4mm deep, it’s a touch bigger in all dimensions compared to the DRAG 4.

Despite the size increase, it still feels comfortable in the hand and pocketable for a dual 18650 device.

VooPoo Drag5 Battery Compartment

The most notable design change is the new C-Frame sliding battery cover. This clever piece of engineering is far more practical.

The leather-wrapped panel now covers about 90% of the device’s sides and can be easily slid open or completely removed. It’s a significant improvement over the DRAG 4’s rigid pull-away panel.

Also, you can interchange the panels with different options to purchase separately. in other colors between devices. Which is cool if you want a unique look.

The battery compartment also features a ribbon for easy battery removal. The batteries fit snugly with no rattle, even when shaking the device vigorously.

Each of the Drag 5’s colorways comes with a unique panel design.

My review unit is Sunset Orange, which features a checked pattern on the panel, and a slight gradient on the metal chassis. It’s a really gorgeous color and not one I’ve seen before on a mod. Our pictures don’t do justice, it’s much more striking in person.

The front of the device sports a single glass panel that houses the display, fire button, adjustment buttons, and the customizable locking switch. It’s a cleaner look compared to the DRAG 4’s partitioned display.

The buttons and switch are now matte black with a slight chrome ring, a subtle change that adds to the device’s premium feel.

On top, you’ll find a round 510 plate positioned towards the back of the device. It can accommodate atomizers up to 24mm in diameter without overhang. And as you’d expect perfectly fits the included UFORCE-X tank.

The build quality is top-notch, as we’ve come to expect from VOOPOO. The device feels solid and well-constructed, with no rattles or loose parts.

Overall, the DRAG 5’s design and build quality demonstrate VOOPOO’s commitment to refinement. While it may not be a radical departure from its predecessor, the thoughtful improvements, especially the new battery door mechanism, make it a more polished device.

VooPoo Drag5

Features

The DRAG 5 comes packed with a host of features.

It’s powered by VOOPOO’s latest Gene TT2.0 chipset, offering a broad power range of 5-177W. This should satisfy even the most demanding vapers, providing ample headroom for low-resistance builds and high-wattage vaping.

One unique feature is the customizable locking switch, a carryover from the DRAG 4 (that I’m thrilled to see return).

This physical switch can be set to perform one of three functions:

  • Lock the entire device
  • Lock only the adjustment buttons
  • Turn the device on and off.

It’s a practical addition that comes in handy in various situations, like preventing accidental firing.

The DRAG 5 offers four vaping modes to suit different vaping styles:

  • SMART mode: It automatically sets a wattage range based on the coil resistance, helping to prevent coil burnout and extend coil life. It’s particularly useful for beginners.
  • RBA mode: This is your standard variable wattage mode, allowing you to set the power output anywhere from 5-177W without restrictions. It’s ideal for use with rebuildable atomizers or when you want full control over your vaping experience.
  • Eco mode: A battery-saving feature that VOOPOO claims can extend usage times by up to 10%. While I didn’t find myself using it often, it could be a lifesaver when you’re low on battery and away from a charger.
  • TC mode: The DRAG 5 supports temperature control for Ni200, Ti, SS316, and SS430 wire types. While there’s no TCR mode for fine-tuning, these four options should cover most TC vapers’ needs.

Navigating these features is straightforward thanks to the device’s intuitive menu system.

  • Power On/Off = Click the fire button five times
  • Enter menu: Hold both +/- adjustment buttons.
  • Change modes: Hold both +/- adjustment buttons. Then navigate to “Mode” with adjustment buttons.
  • Adjust wattage (TC mode): Hold both the power and + buttons together in TC mode.
  • Change Temp Mode: Hold both the power and – buttons together to change from F to C.

Speaking of battery health, the DRAG 5 includes a “Battery Evaluation” feature accessible through the menu. While I’m not entirely sure of its accuracy, it’s an interesting addition that attempts to give you insight into your batteries’ condition.

Lastly, the device supports 3A fast charging via USB-C. While I always recommend using an external charger for safety and battery longevity, it’s a handy feature for those times when you’re caught without spare batteries.

Overall, the DRAG 5’s feature set strikes a good balance between functionality and user-friendliness.

VooPoo Drag5 UFORCE-X Tank & Coils

UFORCE-X Tank & Coils

The DRAG 5 kit comes bundled with VOOPOO’s latest sub-ohm offering, the UFORCE-X tank.

This tank is an upgrade of the UFORCE-L, with some notable improvements.

The UFORCE-X maintains the top airflow design of its predecessor, which is excellent news for those worried about leaking.

However, VOOPOO has streamlined the airflow system, replacing the previous three-slot design with two wider, more open slots. This change promises improved airflow control and potentially better vapor production.

One of the most significant changes is the coil compatibility. The UFORCE-X is designed exclusively for VOOPOO’s new PnP X coil range. While this means you can’t use the older PnP coils, the new range offers some impressive capabilities that make up for this limitation.

VooPoo Drag5 UFORCE-X Tank & Coils

The kit includes two coil options:

  • 0.15Ω PnP X coil (60-80W)
  • 0.3Ω PnP X coil (32-40W)

These coils are part of VOOPOO’s expanded PnP X range, which includes additional options like 0.2Ω, 0.45Ω, and 0.6Ω.

VOOPOO makes some bold claims about these new coils, stating they can last for up to 100ml of e-liquid before needing replacement. While I’m always skeptical of such claims, my testing has shown these coils do indeed have impressive longevity. I’ve currently run 80ml of juice through the coils without any noticeable drop in performance – a promising sign.

The tank itself boasts a generous 5.5ml capacity (2ml for TPD versions), which is ample . VOOPOO has thoughtfully included a spare bubble glass in the kit, providing a backup in case of accidental damage.

Filling the UFORCE-X is a breeze thanks to the sliding top-fill system. There’s a clearly marked arrow indicating where to push to reveal the fill port. The single fill port is generously sized and features a silicone seal with a slit, effectively preventing any e-liquid from seeping back out.

Changing coils is equally straightforward. The base of the tank unscrews, allowing easy access to the coil. The PnP X coils push-fit securely into place, with a snug fit.

As an added precaution against leaking, the base of the tank features a decent-sized well to catch any e-liquid that might escape the coil.

Overall, the UFORCE-X tank and its PnP X coils seem to be a solid pairing for the DRAG 5 mod. The improved airflow design, impressive coil longevity, and user-friendly features make it a compelling sub-ohm tank option.

Performance

The DRAG 5, paired with the UFORCE-X tank, delivers a vaping experience that’s sure to satisfy both cloud chasers and flavor enthusiasts.

I’ve put this kit through its paces, testing both included coils extensively, and I’m impressed with its overall performance.

Let’s start with the mod itself. The DRAG 5 fires instantly with no noticeable delay, a testament to the efficiency of the Gene TT2.0 chipset. The power delivery feels consistent and accurate across the entire wattage range, though I spent most of my time in the 40-80W sweet spot for the included coils.

VooPoo Drag5

The SMART mode works well, especially with the UFORCE-X tank. It sets a sensible wattage range based on the coil resistance. However, I found myself preferring the RBA mode for fine-tuning my vaping experience.

Now, onto the UFORCE-X tank and its PnP X coils. I started with the 0.3Ω coil, rated for 32-40W.

This coil really shines in the 35-38W range. It delivers a warm, flavorful vape with impressive vapor production. It’s perfect for restricted DL hits, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well it handled a 70/30 VG/PG e-liquid without any wicking issues.

The 0.15Ω coil, rated for 60-80W, is where this kit really flexes its muscles. At 75W, it’s a proper cloud machine, churning out dense, warm vapor. The flavor is noticeably more intense than with the 0.3Ω coil, really bringing out the nuances in complex e-liquid profiles.

Both coils impressed me with their longevity. I’m deep into testing, and have run at least 80ml through the 0.3Ω coil. It still hasn’t shown signs of flavor degradation or decreased performance.

So I guess VOOPOO’s claim of up to 100ml per coil doesn’t seem far-fetched based on my experience.

The airflow on the UFORCE-X tank is smooth and easily adjustable. Wide open, it provides a very airy draw that complements the 0.15Ω coil’s high-wattage performance.

For the 0.3Ω coil, I preferred to close off the airflow about halfway, which gave a perfect RDL and enhanced the flavor.

One quirk I noticed is that the tank can get quite warm during extended high-wattage vaping sessions, especially with the 0.15Ω coil. It’s not uncomfortably hot, but it’s noticeable.

Thankfully the top airflow design made sure I experienced zero leaking issues. Which is always a plus.

A quick note on the customizable locking switch. It’s perfect, and being able to quickly lock the the wattage adjustment is great for out-and-about vaping.

Battery life is impressive for a dual 18650 device. With the 0.3Ω coil at 38W, I easily got through a full day of heavy vaping. The 0.15Ω coil at 75W, unsurprisingly, drained the batteries faster, but I still managed most of a day before needing to swap cells.

While the 3A charging is convenient in a pinch, I noticed the mod getting warm during charging. I’d recommend sticking to an external charger for regular use and safety.

Overall, the DRAG 5 kit delivers a top-notch vaping experience. The mod is powerful and responsive, while the UFORCE-X tank and PnP X coils provide excellent flavor and vapor production with impressive longevity.

Verdict

The VOOPOO DRAG 5 kit is a solid evolution of the DRAG series.

It’s a match made in heaven. An easy-to-use, stylish, and powerful mod with a leak-resistant, flavor-packed cloud-chasing tank.

Standout features like the customizable locking switch, improved sliding battery door, and long-lasting PnP X coils elevate it above past Drag Kits.

It’s debatable whether that’s enough for you to jump ship from the Drag 4 (if you already own one). After all, it’s not the cheapest setup.

Personally, I love the refinements VOOPOO has made, and the DRAG 5 is my new go-to mod.

It’s also worth noting that even though the kit is aimed at experienced vapers who love a bit of power. The DRAG has always been a great kit for beginners to step up to, especially in SMART mode.

The DRAG 5 is a worthy addition to the DRAG lineup. It’s a kit that I can confidently recommend, especially to vapers who want a user-friendly but powerful and versatile setup.
