Wismec Luxotic Surface Kit | Preview

The Wismec Luxotic Surface Kit is a regulated version of the Luxotic squonk mod and the Kestral RDTA which features a mesh heating element.

The Wismec Luxotic Surface Kit is a combination of the Luxotic Surface Squonk mod and the Kestrel RDTA.

The Luxotic Surface squonk mod is similar to the original Luxotic device – but Wismec has incorporated an Avatar chipset with it.

This means the device is regulated and comes with Variable Wattage, Temperature Control, By-pass or TCR modes. Along with all the safety protection you get from a regulated device.

There’s also a 0.49inch OLED display on the side of the device, between the fire button and adjustment buttons.

The Luxotic Surface uses a single 18650 battery and will output up to 80W, and has a 6.5ml capacity squonk bottle included in the kit.

The Kestrel RDTA features a mesh heating element, much like that of Joyetech’s (Wismec’s sister company) NCFilm from the Cubis tanks and Atopack Magic.

Wismec claims the heating element has a lifespan of at least 3 months and can be removed, cleaned and re-wicked with ease.

The Kestral is obviously squonk compatible and comes with a bottom feed 510 pin, it has a 2ml capacity tank section, which also features a side fill port.

There’s dual side airflow, which can be adjusted by rotating the top cap of the RDTA.

Wismec Luxotic Surface Kit is available in 4 funky colors – Unistar, Basketball, Linear, and Honeycomb.

It’s taken some time for Wismec to release a regulated version of the Luxotic BF. But I’m sure it’s going to be reasonably popular, as many people where fans of the original, but it does face some stiff opposition now.

It looks like Wismec has implemented the board and controls well, and the latest Avatar chipsets have been very solid on performance.

One thing I’m not too keen on is the slightly over the top designed side panels. Hopefully, they will come out with some more subtle ones, down the line or maybe it will be compatible with the original Luxotic BF panels.

As for the Kestrel RDTA, I will reserve judgment until I use it, but I really was overly impressed with the Joyetech NCFilms versions of the heating element.

It’s an excellent idea in principle, and actually not too bad on flavor, but it just doesn’t quite deliver enough heat and the same quality vape I’m used to from regular coils.

Still, if the Kestral RDTA isn’t too great, at least you can use your own BF RDA or RDTA on top.
