Wotofo Nudge Squonk Box Mod

Wotofo has entered the fray of budget squonkers with the Wotofo nudge squonk box. It’s not an entirely new design, in fact, it is more of an update on their sister company’s squonk box, the Stentorian RAM. It even uses some of the same parts.

However, with a change of materials, and a fuse for safety it does make it an even more appealing option for the budget squonker.

The Good

Incredibly affordable, compact design, looks more premium than it actually is and includes a fuse for safety.

The Bad

A bit too plasticky and the fire button isn’t great, the locking mechanism even less so.

The Bottom Line

Yes, the Wotofo nudge does have some flaws, but for the price, you can certainly look beyond them. Not as good as the Vandy Vape Pulse, but it’s a smaller device and far better than most of its competition in this range.

1Design & Build Quality

At first glance, you might be mistaken in thinking the Wotofo Nudge squonk box is made from premium materials with its carbon fiber like panels and gold accents.

However, on closer inspection, you can tell it’s just a plastic box with some clever design choices to make it look less so. But that’s not a bad thing after all this is Wotofo’s answer to the budget squonker, and considering you can pick one up for around $25, I don’t think anybody could grumble with the build quality and materials used.

Wotofo has also taken a different approach to safety and incorporated the use of a 30 amp fuse (spares also included). Some hardcore mechanical squonkers may turn their nose up at this, as the Nudge is not a truly mechanical squonk box, but just unregulated. I, on the other hand, think it’s a welcome move as more new vapers are looking to get into squonking, and anything that manufacturers can do to protect them from overstressing batteries and potentially blowing their faces is off is a good thing.

Let’s just say if you are looking for a budget squonker, but are not entirely comfortable with Ohm’s law and how to build appropriately for the battery you are using; then the Nudge is an excellent choice as the 30 amp limit of the fuse will protect you.

Another safety choice that Wotofo has kept from their Stentorian RAM squonk box is the locking mechanism on the fire button. In fact, the Nudge has exactly the same fire button as the RAM, which is not a good thing. The fire button functions ok, although it is a little spongy on the press. But the locking mechanism is poorly implemented. It is supposed to be a quick turn of the button locks the device, to prevent accidental firing. Firstly you can barely grip the button, and it’s limited knurling, and secondly, it’s almost impossible to know when it’s locked.

I wish Wotofo had improved the fire button, or at least put some kind of indication when it’s locked. I guess they had a lot of RAM button still to use in their warehouse.

Wotofo Nudge Squonk Box Mod

The internals of the Wotofo Nudge are extremely clean and well designed; it’s easy to access the fuse and squonk bottle, and the battery door has a very strong magnet to hold it in place. There is a tiny bit of movement on the door when it’s in place, but nothing too annoying.

The one issue I do have with the internals is the lack of battery orientation markings and battery ribbon. Yes, the battery can work either way you put it in, but I think there should be clear markings to advise users to place it positive side down (in case of venting). Also due to the tight, compact internals, there is no easy way to remove the battery other than giving the device a slap from behind. I would’ve liked to have seen a battery strap to make it easier to remove batteries and save on damaging battery wraps.

All minor flaws aside, it is a solid device for the money. The build quality is ok, and it is extremely compact and lightweight. It also has a nice sleek and clean look about it.

3Features & Performance

Despite the inclusion of a 30 amp fuse and extra wiring that needs to go along with it, I surprisingly didn’t notice much, if any voltage drop in using the Wotofo Nudge.

For a single 18650 squonk box, it hits instantly and pretty well. My only gripe as mentioned before is I wish the fire button was a bit better and less spongy.

Squonking

Obviously one of the most important parts of any squonk mod is how well does it perform at squonking, and the Nudge Box squonks really well.

The squonk bottle is soft and easy to squonk with an airtight seal on the top cap and is easily accessible through the door panel.

It’s good that Wotofo includes two squonk bottles, but pretty disappointing that the spare doesn’t come with another collar and top cap – even at such a budget price, they should’ve included it.

That being said you can use other squonk bottles in the Nudge just fine.

Overall I have had a good experience using the Nudge Box for a weeks squonking, and it’s ideal as an out-and-about or backup squonk mod.

4Verdict

Overall the Wotofo Nudge Squonk Bod Mod does a really good as a squonker and is excellent for the price point.

It’s incredibly lightweight, compact and feels good in the hand.

The not so great fire button, locking mechanism and lack of battery ribbon do mean I have to mark it down, and prevents it being the best budget squonk box on the market. <link>

However, it does serve as a great inexpensive entry to vapers looking to get into squonking, especially those worried about Ohm’s law and safety.

Although, we do advise anybody using an unregulated device to get to grips with Ohm’s law first.

Personally, I’m going to stick to using the Vandy Vape Pulse as my budget beater squonk mod.
