The Drag S Pro and Drag X Pro are the latest addition to the ever-increasing Drag family of pod mods.

The Drag X Pro can use a 21700 or 18650 battery, while the S Pro has an internal 3000mah battery.

Both come with the new GENE.FAN 3.0 chip, which includes the Boost Mode of 8.5V to deliver a more consistent vape.

They also utilize Voopoo’s newly designed TPP X pod, which has significant improvements and a 5.5ml capacity.

The Drag S Pro and Drag X Pro are available in 7 colors (listed in the specs section below).

We have the Sahara Brown version of both devices for review.

The Good

Excellent build quality on both devices, on/off toggle, improved TPP X pod, good fill method, boost mode (8.5V), decent airflow, and excellent performance from coils.

The Bad

No options included for MTL Vaping.

The Bottom Line

Both the Drag S Pro and Drag X Pro are excellent devices. While they are not a million miles different from the originals, the addition of boost mode helps deliver consistent flavor across the board. The minor improvements to the tank/pod and excellent new coils do elevate the vape experience. Probably the best pod systems you can purchase right now.

Voopoo Drag S & X Pro Kit - Review

Design & Style

The Drag S and X Pro have that unmistakable Drag design. At first glance, you’d 100 percent recognize they were Drag devices but may struggle to tell them apart from their predecessors – or in fact, from each other.

The most significant design changes with the Drag S and X pro versions over the ‘standard’ models come with the newly designed TPP X Pod.

The pod’s looks integrate with the device a lot better than the previous one, and it resembles a tank rather than just a plastic pod. It also has a very nifty new juice fill port – which we’ll cover later.

Then there is the integrated airflow control ring now on the device itself, called the 360° infinite airflow system.

Voopoo Drag S & X Pro Kit - Review

It’s very well implemented and is precisely the same on both the S & X Pro versions. The S Pro model only has a slight knurling grip, whereas the X Pro has more indented lines that seem easier to grip. However, both are incredibly smooth to turn and give you the option to open up the full cyclops style airflow or just a single airhole for MTL.

You might be hard-pressed to spot other differences in design between these new Pro models and the standard versions. But there are two more that look minor but do make a massive difference.

Firstly VooPoo has changed the orientation of the +/- adjustment buttons, so they are now one long horizontal rocker-style button (instead of two small vertical buttons). This has allowed them to place another button beneath.

In fact, it’s not a button at all. Instead, it’s a switch that you can set to act as a key lock, or if you prefer, it can be the on/off switch. I set it to be the on/off switch, and it makes a massive difference being able to quickly flick the switch before you put the device in your pocket, compared to 5 clicks of the fire button.

Voopoo Drag S & X Pro Kit Buttons

It’s a simple addition and one we have seen on other devices. It baffles me why others don’t do the same with their mods, but I’m thrilled Voopoo added this to the design.

The other notable change is only on the Drag X Pro version. As mentioned previously, the only real difference between the S & X is the X Pro takes external batteries. Voopoo has also updated the battery door on the new Drag X Pro, and it functions a lot better than the previous ones.

Instead of sliding the whole door outward to open it. There is now a small button that you slide that releases the latch. It feels a lot smoother opening and closing, as well as being a little more robust.

Voopoo has also added rubber padding on the base of both of the Drag S & X pro models, which should stop them from getting scratched on surfaces.

The only other design difference between the Drag s and X Pro versions is the branding on the grip.

Overall, the external design changes may look minor, but they seem to be well thought out functional ones.

There are, of course, some internal changes that we will cover later on. Nevertheless, these new Drag Pro’s don’t let the side down when it comes to design and style. They look stylish and modern, and I really like them.

Features

The Drag S and X Pro are almost identical with their features this time around, with the only notable difference being the battery power.

The Drag S comes with an internal 3000mAh battery and has a power range of 5-80W.

The Drag X Pro supports a single 21700 or 18650 external battery and has a power output of 5-100W.

They both utilize Voopoo’s new GENE.FAN 3.0 chip. Which Voopoo claim gives a 20% performance increase over previous chipsets, and includes the Boost Mode of 8.5V.

The Boost mode is designed to increases the output voltage to 8.5V, which optimizes the output and brings a more stable flavor even when the battery is about to run out.

They both have the use of Smart mode and RBA modes. The ‘Smart’ mode sets the mod safely in the recommended wattage range for the attached coil, whereas the ‘RBA’ mode allows further wattage control.

There is also a TC mode for both devices, but this needs to be downloaded and installed from the Voopoo website. Which I think most can easily go without.

Voopoo Drag S & X Pro Kit Screens

The Drag X Pro now also has the option to fire via Auto & Manual modes. The auto-inhale to fire feature was missing from previous X versions.

The Drag S & X Pro both have a USB Type-C charge port, supporting 5V/2.5A fast charging.

The display on both mods is a 0.96” TFT screen. It is clear and bright, just like previous models, and clearly displays the set wattage, battery level, voltage under load, coil resistance, and current puff count.

Operating either Drag Pro device is incredibly easy and is somewhat simplified due to the addition of the Toggle Switch.

  • Press the fire button five times to turn the device on and off
  • Press the + and – buttons to enter the menu where the options are Switch, Mode, and Exit
  • The ‘Switch’ option allows you to set the switch to either lock or turn off the device. Once locked, the auto draw will still operate.
  • The ‘Mode’ option allows you to change between Smart & RBA power modes.
  • To clear puff count, press the fire button and the – button simultaneously.
Voopoo Drag S & X Pro Kit Coils

The Pod/Coils

Both kits include the new TPP X Pod tank, which has a 5.5ml juice capacity.

It is a really different design from the prior PNP and TPP style pods. The 810 drip-tip included has two O-rings and a metal ring on the bottom that matches the tank styling.

Then below that is the most significant change, the new fill port design.

At the first attempt, I wasn’t quite sure how to fill it, as it just looks like a flat black piece of plastic. However, after reading Voopoo’s instructions, it soon became apparent.

You simply push the black fill port cap in with your finger, while also rotating the top ring of the tank to the left. This then reveals a standard rubber fill plug.

The fill plug has a small arrow on it pointed to where you need to lift it from. You might need decent fingernails just to grip the end of it.

Voopoo Drag S & X Pro Kit Pods

Once you’re done filling, simply rotate the ring back to the right, and it will lock.

Overall it’s a well-implemented fill design, which not only makes it child-safe but also means you can fill it without having to remove it from the device.

The fill port was on the base with previous Drag pods, so you needed to remove them to fill.

The tank section is made of food-grade PCTG, with some stainless steel body parts. The TPP X Pod tank utilizes either the TPP or PNP coil series, so there is a wide range of compatible coils.

If you aren’t familiar with the TPP series of coils, they are push ‘n’ pull coils just like the original PNP coils but have larger liquid flow openings in them.

The Drag S Pro comes with the following coils:

  • 1 x TPP-DM1 (0.15Ω) coil (60-80W range)
  • 1 x TPP-DM4 (0.3Ω) coil (32-40W range)

The Drag X Pro comes with the following coils:

  • 1 x TPP-DM3 (0.15Ω) coil (80-100W range)
  • 1 x TPP-DM2 (0.2Ω) coil (40-60W range)

The TPP-DM3 (0.15Ω) coil is Voopoo’s newest coil which has a range of 80-100W.

Voopoo Drag S & X Pro Kit Performance

Performance

The performance of both of the Drag S & X Pro mods was as you would expect from Drag devices.

They are effortless to use, almost instant with the firing and feel accurate with the power.

The Boost mode seems to work well, and you get a consistent flavor/power output even with the battery draining low. However, with the Drag X Pro (as with my Drag X Plus Professional Review), you are best sticking to a 21700 battery inside.

The new TPP X Pro tank is also great. It’s a breeze to fill, and the removable drip tip feels a lot more comfortable than previous pods.

The 360° infinite airflow system – or airflow ring as it should be called. It seems to work well. It doesn’t make a significant difference in the airflow performance compared to previous Drags. However, I feel you might have a slight bit more control, especially if you wanted an MTL draw.

Voopoo Drag S & X Pro Kit Battery

That being said, neither of the coils that come with the devices (also the mouthpiece for that matter) are set up for MTL vaping.

The TPP coils themselves are excellent and deliver outstanding flavor.

I preferred using the 0.3Ω in the Drag S Pro to extend battery life, and it delivers excellent at around 40W.

In the Drag X Pro, the TPP-DM3 (0.15Ω), which can get up to 100W, will undoubtedly please many vapers. It produces masses of dense, flavorful clouds.

Again I prefer to keep it in the lower wattage range, and the 0.2Ω (60W) delivered more than enough for me.

The beauty of both of Voopoo’s new Drag Pro’s is you’ve got an extensive selection of coils to choose from, and they all perform well.

A quick word on battery life.

Obviously, the Drag X Pro’s battery life will depend on what type of external battery you use inside.

However, I found the Drag S Pro with its 3000mAh in-built battery did a stellar job at getting me through a full day of vaping (primarily using the 0.3Ω coil). It was also incredibly speedy to top the charge when I was at my desk.

Good Vibes

Verdict

Voopoo just seems to keep churning out the Drags, and it would be easy to say that there are not enough changes to warrant an upgrade.

However, I think both the Drag S & X Pro have addressed some of my flaws with the previous models. Like a lower capacity battery in the standard Drag S or no Auto-draw in the standard Drag X.

The other design tweaks of a far better pod/tank, with an improved filling method, and the new power toggle really do make a difference.

The Drag S & X Pro are probably the two most refined pod systems on the market, and I honestly believe they are worth the upgrade.
