Design & Build Quality

Right away, It was evident the craftsmanship that Voopoo Drag devices are known for was present in the Drag H40. It feels really solid and durable in your hand.

The mainly zinc alloy body has leather-style panels wrapped around it. This gives it a classy look and makes it comfortable to hold. The leather feels smooth with the embossed Drag logo.

And the ‘Sky Blue’ (or baby Blue) variant we have for review is super cute!

Despite its compact size, the H40 still manages to fit nicely in my palm. It’s the smallest Drag I’ve come across, so super portable and pocket-friendly.

The dimensions come in at 104.5mm tall, 27.5mm wide, and 26.1mm deep.

Voopoo Drag H40 Pod Kit

It reminds me a lot of the Drag H80S, only slightly shorter.

The H40 has some heft to it at 103g with a pod attached. I don’t mind the weight since it gives a quality feel, but it is on the heavier side for a pod system.

The front has a small 0.54-inch OLED display. It’s kinda tiny but gets the job done. It shows all the vape info, like wattage, mode, battery level, etc., in a nice fashion. Brightness is good too.

Voopoo Drag H40 Pod Kit Display Screen

Up top, there’s the metal firing button which clicks nicely. No issues with responsiveness or anything so far. It does have a bit of a sharp edge though.

Under the screen are two separate up/down buttons. These are easy to locate by feel and are far better than a rocker switch, in my opinion. Very clicky and tactile.

On the base is the handy Type-C USB charging port. It’s recessed too, which should help avoid damage. Always nice to see USB-C charging implemented in this way.

Now moving up top, the pod connects securely using strong magnets. Trust me, this thing does not budge when fully attached.

There’s also a unique airflow control built into where the pod meets the battery. It’s very neat and functions perfectly. Rotating the pod adjusts the airflow.

The pods themselves are made of durable PCTG plastic. The visibility of the juice level is crystal clear. Side filling is easy too, with the large rubber plug.

Overall, Voopoo nailed the look, feel, and build quality with the Drag H40. Other than a bit of weight, I have zero complaints here. It’s just put together very nicely.

Features & Functions

The Drag H40 keeps things simple for a pod device but still offers some nice features.

It uses Voopoo’s GENE AI chipset, which provides up to 40W of power. There are two main modes – Smart and RBA.

Smart mode detects the ideal wattage range for the coil you have installed. This is great for beginners since you don’t have to worry about settings.

RBA mode turns the H40 into a basic variable wattage device. You can set the power anywhere from 5-40W. This gives advanced users more control.

Switching between the two modes is easy – just tap the fire button 3 times. The current mode shows on the screen, which is handy.

Speaking of the screen, it also displays the standard stuff like battery life, resistance, puff counter, etc. It’s small but gets the job done.

I like that you can lock the H40 by holding the fire button and the up button. This disables everything, so there are no accidental fires. Hold again to unlock.

A cool highlight is the adjustable airflow control. Just rotate the pod itself to open or close off the airflow slots. Very convenient.

Sadly, there’s no auto-draw functionality with the Drag H40. It’s back to basics with manual firing.

It has a good size 1500mAh internal battery, which charges via Type-C. I got around a day and a half of moderate use from it. Pretty decent for a compact pod mod.

Pods/Coils

The Drag H40 uses Voopoo’s latest PNP Pod II for the coils and juice capacity. It’s a slightly improved design over previous PNP pods.

It’s not the same as the PNP POD TANK II that comes with the E60 and H80S. However, I believe Voopoo is transitioning those devices to use this new pod moving forward.

It still utilizes Voopoo’s plug-n-play coil system, so they just push right in. No fussing with coils and atomizer bases. Sweet!

The PNP Pod II has a generous 5ml capacity with the standard version. This should mean less frequent refilling, which is great.

However, the TPD version holds 2ml for EU regulations.

The pod is made from PCTG plastic, so nice and durable. The see-through material makes checking juice levels a breeze.

Sadly there’s no top-fill mechanism.

But filling is easy thanks to the large side port and rubber plug. Just pull open the plug, squirt in your juice, and pop it back in place.

The only thing I don’t like about the new PNP Pod II is the styling on the top.

It has a removable mouthpiece, which is great.

But the way the top is styled with a slightly recessed swirl pattern means the mouthpiece doesn’t look flush when it’s attached.

It does give it a unique look, but if you are a bit OCD like me, you might prefer things to look neat and flush.

Now onto the coils.

The Drag H40 comes with two coils in the kit:

  • VM3 0.45Ω PNP Mesh Coil (Rated 25-35W)
  • TW30 0.3Ω PNP Mesh Coil (Rated 28-36W)

Both are mesh coils made for direct lung vaping, so expect great flavor and big vapor from the Drag H40.

It will also be compatible with any of the PNP coil family, so there’s plenty of flexibility. And PNP coils usually deliver the goods!

Let’s see how these two coils and the H40 fair on the performance front.

Performance

When it comes down to it, performance is what really matters for any vape device. I’m happy to report the Drag H40 delivers where it counts!

Right away, the excellent flavor from the PNP coils stood out to me. These coils are flavor champs in my book. Tones of vapor too!

With the 0.45Ω VM3 coil, the flavor was excellent. Super clean and crisp. I was amazed at how defined each note came through. This coil rocks for fruit and candy vapes.

While this coil is rated from 25-35W. I liked it best around 28W.

The 0.3Ω TW30 coil ramps up the warmth and density of the vapor. It brought out more creamy, desserty profiles really nicely. It still has fantastic flavor consistency, puff after puff.

I found that the TW30 performed best at the upper echelons of its range at around 35W.

I also want to highlight the airflow on the Drag H40. It’s implemented better than most pod systems I’ve tried. However, it really only has a range of DL to restricted DL with these coils.

Fully open on the VM3 (0.45Ω) coil still felt slightly restricted to me. Closing it down to around 50% just made it a more restricted DL vape, but it did help the flavor to pop some more.

The TW3 (0.3Ω) coil with the airflow fully open will give you a good DL vape.

Cutting down the airflow will get you to a restricted DL draw, but I think this coil needs more power and airflow to perform at its best, so don’t restrict it too much.

I’d like to see how the H40 would fair with a higher ohm coil and further restricted airflow. An MTL drip tip is available, but unfortunately, I didn’t have any suitable PNP coils to test it.

Voopoo Drag H40 Pod Kit

I’m sure it would perform ok for MTL, and it’s good to have that versatility. But judging by the coils included, the H40 is best as a DL device. If you really want MTL vaping, go with a designated MTL pod device.

Most will be happy with using the Drag H40 in smart mode; it’s easy and gets you in the correct range.

While the RDA mode does let you crank these coils up to 40W maximum. They actually prefer lower wattages. While 40W may give you huge clouds, it compromises flavor quality.

I was impressed with the 1500mAh battery on the H40. It does well for a compact device.

I got through a day and a half on a full charge. And I was chain vaping quite a bit, so no complaints here!

While the H40 does have USB-C charging, it’s not the fastest out there.

All in all, the performance of the Drag H40 really impressed me.

The mesh coils and adjustable airflow deliver an incredibly satisfying DL vaping experience, in my opinion.

Verdict

After testing out the Voopoo Drag H40 pod mod for the past week, I’ve gotta say it’s an impressive little device. Voopoo got a lot right with this pocket-friendly pod system.

The performance is where it really shines. The PNP coils deliver outstanding flavor and dense vapor that rivals much larger mods. Huge props to Voopoo there.

It’s also simple and beginner-friendly. The smart mode takes the guesswork out of optimal settings. But you can switch to RBA mode and manually adjust wattage if you want more control.

Build quality is top-notch too. The leather panels and zinc alloy chassis make it feel sturdy and built to last. Plus, it just looks nice, especially for a pod vape.

Battery life was solid in my testing, getting through a day of heavy vaping. Type-C charging is handy too, but I wish it was a little faster.

At the end of the day, I think Voopoo has another winner on their hands with the Drag H40. It continues the legacy of the Drag name with a compact yet powerful pod system.

The Drag H40 is an easy recommendation from me. Voopoo packs a serious punch into this pint-sized pod system.
